PCB / Fixing bad CV1000 Graphics NAND blocks without any soldering

Thought I'd just make a small cross-post of this here, since it should be relevant for people who are not on Arcade Projects forum.

A while ago there was a Espgaluda 2 sold on YAJ that had sprite issues when bombing. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/x1005199728
The dude buying it sent it to me to let me have a look at it, and I managed to fix the issue by remapping the relevant sprites to clean blocks on the NAND, that had some data that had gone bad. PCB has since been returned to new owner which seems happy with it.

To quote mame source code:
"Cave often programmed the u2 roms onto defective flash chips, programming around the bad blocks.
As a result these are highly susceptible to failure, blocks around the known bad blocks appear to
decay at an alarming rate in some cases, and in others data has clearly been programmed over
blocks that were already going bad"


When this happens, one option is to just burn a new one and swap it, but now that CV1000 JTAG is fully documented (by me here: https://github.com/buffis/cv1k_research/tree/main/JTAG), this is very fixable without any soldering.

There's quite a few steps, but it should be very possible to do the same procedure for other PCBs with similar issues. Don't attempt unless you know what you are doing though.

I just noticed Famitsu had an article last week on the DLC story collaboration:

They show a new picture of the mode select screen with the DLC characters. It looks like you can flip back and forth between the original characters and the DLC characters with the Y button (Switch) or Square button (PS4).

Famitsu has a new article about the DLC character Ranun in the Deathsmiles port:

They say she has a fixed-option laser, like Windia and Follett. Her lock shot has a short-range (half the screen), but high fire power.



Funnily enough, if you look at the post above this one you will see the earlier character select screen spelled her name as "Ranan". This has been amended to "Ranun" in the latest build, as shown below.

The location test ended early today, because EXA pulled the plug on it. Maybe they found some glitches/problems that need to be fixed. They have not stated the reason yet.

SPE finally did it! It took him many months of work, but today he beat SWY's long-standing 607mil Deathsmiles EX score with Casper.

He now has the WR in Deathsmiles with every character in both the normal and EX routes. What an achievement!!

I think Exa label mode looks really cool. Not sure if rank is controlled simply by the gem chain or something else.
The timing for item-spawns cancelling other item spawns seems shorter than in Progear, which I guess means that gem-waves similar to S1 boss in Progear is unlikely. The quicker cancels look real nice though!

I have really only played the regular Arcade version of AK, so looking forward to play in the other three modes :)

Yeah, looks heavily Progear influenced, which I guess makes sense considering how much AK looks influenced by Progear in some ways (enemy/stage design among other things)
