Title: Switch (CAVE 2008)
Post by: EOJ on August 17, 2008, 05:32:15 AM
Here's a pic from the CAVE matsuri showing 2 characters from a new CAVE game called "Switch" that they will release info about soon:

Probably not their new arcade game, but who knows. More likely some cellphone crapola.
It is a shooting game though!

i just thought this was from Disgaea.
Looks more Nippon Ichi than Cave to me.

I thoght exactly the same thing when I saw it. Not that I would mind if they hired the guy who does Disgaea's character designs (although he does some porny kind of stuff too - ugh). What up with the DDP bit on the right corner - a cell port?

Apparently this game is called "Switch", and it's definitely a shooting game. Updated the thread title. More info as it becomes available.

Bad title, but I'm stoked nonetheless.
Probably turn out to be a DS game, though.

I don't think they're doing anything for the DS anymore. In their recent financial report there was no news of new DS development. Just arcade, online, and cellphone stuff.

I wonder if this is a Yagawa title or not. I'm not looking forward to more loli based shooting games to be honest, but I'll wait and see as always. :I

The September Amusement show is only a month away, and CAVE always shows their new Autumn shooter there, so the timing of this little teaser is a bit suspicious...
Could be Yagawa's new arcade game. Sazanami.net thinks it's just going to be some cellphone game, but no one really knows right now.

The show is what... 3 weeks away?  We should have full disclosure at least a week before.... the fact that this came at the festival doesn't seems suspicious to me at all though.  What better format to raise interest in your next game?

I meant "suspicious" as "may be referring to their new arcade game rather than a cellphone game". So I agree with what you're saying.

Well whatever this is, these characters look like the most loli stuff CAVE has come up with yet. What are they, 6yo?

Switch? Two characters? Is this IN territory we tread?

They keep getting younger and younger.  The entire loli fad will be redeemed if it culminates in a fetish about cutesy-looking fetuses.

In the next Cave shooter, you can select from a duo of day-glo testes.

If it is an arcade game, I predict it will be like ikaruga.  Switch to red to go through red bullets, switch to blue to go through the blue ones.

I don't really mind the loli crap but I'm still hoping to see a proper military style shooter on the SH-3. Looks like DFK (and maybe Ibara) was the closest we're going to get but who knows. Maybe alternate military and fantasy between the releases or something? I realize you can do a lot more with sci-fi and fantasy settings but come on Cave, just try leaving out the underage, over-boobed characters for one game this generation. Who knows, maybe it'll still do well.

I think the SH3 is done, the next release should be on the new hardware (if the rumors are true). I wouldn't be surprised to see Ketsui 2 in the next year or two. I think CAVE knows they could get a lot of money from that.

Do you have the date on this?  I would suppose SNK would also be showing KOFXII which means that I'd be interested in going.

That's exactly what I am hoping for. It would make a lot of sense considering the recent glut of product releases concerning the franchise: DS game (soon), 5-chip desk thing, XBox port (soon). Hell, I'll even settle for Ketsui Black Label.

It's the Amusement Machine show, Sept 18-20, 2008. AMI will be showing two games, one is "Blazblue", the other is not announced yet and scheduled for "this fall". Nearly 100% chance that this is a CAVE game. More info on the show (in Japanese) here:

Wasn't Ketsui's plot about a suicide mission where both the bad and the good guys die, or something? I mean, how do you continue a story like that?..

Besides, following the current art direction trend, Ketsui 2's design would involve nothing short of cho aniki cyborgs flying around. :P

Lots of ways to deal with that (do a prequel, do a sequel with new characters/setting, etc). If they can make a sequel to Daioujou, they can make a sequel to anything!

I wonder what the japanese guys are saying about this. IIRC, they were already annoyed with all the lolis in Death Smiles.
Title: Re: Switch (CAVE 2008)

With some exceptions, it seems most of the pro Japanese players came around to Deathsmiles. SWY, ISO, TAC, Dame K.K., tsumanne, etc. They all love the game (TAC mentions in the DVD booklet he thinks the game is brilliant). The game is so good (in terms of its scoring system, level design, etc) that even if you hate the whole loli girl character thing it's hard to dismiss it.

As for this, it's too early to tell. We'd need more info than a simple picture of two characters from a game that may or may not be an arcade game.

Apparently (according to some guys on 2Ch) this game will be revealed soon in a Japanese magazine dedicated to Apuri (cellphone) games. So the odds of this being a cellphone game are pretty good right now.

Apparently the game system is like Ketsui, except that you gain different skills and weapons by accumulating experience points (in the story as well you are apparently back-up fighters for EVAC).

(Abbreviated translation)

There is a "corrosion" system in the game in which your "corrosion gauge" increases as you pass through stages and when it tops out you enter "polluted mode" in which you can no longer play the main game mode.  In order to recover from this mode you'll have to wait 12 hours (!) or have another player "save" you.

Characters that are "polluted" appear in the field as stages (?).  When other players play through the stage and complete certain conditions, they will "save" these characters.  Users who save others and those were saved are added to an online list and can be seen online.  When you register a friend here you can equip other people's characters and even play together.

Stage difficulty changes with the levels of the characters who have become stages and their equipment which means there are as many stages as there are users.

The more stages you go through, the more BGMs you get and the more hype the music gets.  Graphics also progress as you move through more stages.

There will be additional DLC of weapons, avatars, stages, bosses and more and you can send messages back and forth between friends.

Vid showing the game in action:

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5104684

It's very Ketsui-ish, getting boxes based on proximity (up to a value of 5, just like Ketsui), and the multiplier. And there's even a stage called "Evac Industries" with the Ketsui Stage 1 boss at the end (slightly modified version).

the music in that video seems to be a variation of a Ketsui theme as well to me.

It's indeed a remix of the stage 1 soundtrack. In fact, the game seems to be a mobile phone-remix of Ketsui. I wonder why they did not point out a connection to Ketsui in the title as it is pretty obvious once you see the game.
Looks rather good I must say, for a mobile phone game at least.
