Not shmup related, but if you find video game wr history interesting, check out the youtuber "Summoning Salt" (terrible name, great channel). He puts together videos of mostly speed-run world records, but there is at least one for score-play (donkey kong). Very well researched and it's fascinating watching how the approach to a game can change so radically over the years. It's a shame there isn't something similar for shmups, but I'd imagine it would be a lot harder to document how shmup scores evolve over time, as it's a bit more subtle.
