Cave Arcade Sales Tracker Spreadsheet
« on: August 24, 2018, 09:17:53 PM »
Thanks to the thread on here we have of Auctions of Interest, and some conversations I've had with folks about pricing, I decided to make a spreadsheet about Cave game sales prices. The data for this is by no means complete, and I'd like to use the community to help make it usable and helpful.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MzjqCu4OepzJlQ7oKZRNKxng57E0uhGMRwpSds6_pwg/preview

I pulled data so far from:
YAJ - I used YAJ's completed search function for each Cave title, which only goes back 4 months, to get the data from there.
ebay - Only looked at sold listings, and there weren't many.
Forums (shmups mostly) - I did a combination of scanning through the most recent threads (basically of 2018) from sales subforums, and then did a search for each title on shmups to get more data.

To keep the spreadsheet consistent, what I'm thinking is I would curate the spreadsheet itself but I could have community members submit information through this Google Form: https://goo.gl/forms/QYcuNdlA0uqtBWUD2
I'll be checking for sales periodically myself and I'll leave the date that I last updated the spreadsheet at the top.

Some feedback I'd be interested in getting from community members:
1) Should I leave the native currency of the sale? Should I have conversion on there?
2) Does the Google form for submitting completed sales look alright?
3) For anything from auctions sites I included a column for a screenshot of the completed auction since ebay and YAJ will eventually toss those from their server. Is this something I'd also need to do for forum sales or are those unlikely to get wiped out?
4) Even with just recent data on these games' prices, the spreadsheet is getting a little long. I have it organized by game title, then by date from most recent. If this were to continue, would it make sense to give each Cave game its own tab in the spreadsheet?
5) Before I pitch this to larger forum communities that also care about these Cave games, I would welcome any tips on making it (specifically Google stuff) anonymous, I guess. I don't really care if you guys see my name attached to it, but including the whole interweb would be iffy.

I have to applaud ookitarepanda for doing this. It is something that will be really helpful for buyers and sellers. When you see some of the price fluctuations there, you can see how some are paying way too much for certain games, and it is probably out of ignorance of what the prices have been lately. Knowledge = power. :righton:

Updated the spreadsheet with a couple of recent sales. I was hesitant to add PCB shops because frequently you can't tell if a game sells or if it was just taken off the site, but I did add the Akai Katana as it has been the only publicly recorded sale since 9/23/17. I refuse to include "I know a guy" kind of sales.

I also changed the format so each game has its own tab, and there is a link to each tab from the "home" tab of the spreadsheet.

You have a Mushi Futari 1.5 Full kit listed twice, once for 1150 Euros and again for 1050 Euros, but it's the same listing. It didn't sell at 1150 so the seller dropped the price to 1050 and it sold.

You should add the Ibara Kuro PCB that sold for 138k yen at Akihabara Beep a few months ago:

http://cave-stg.com/forum/index.php?topic=28.msg31178#msg31178

Games Kanaya sold one for 168k yen earlier in the year too.

I'm wondering how to add shop sales to the list. You can screenshot a completed auction, but if you screenshot a website, there's no indication whether that item sold or not. I was pretty lucky to catch the Akai Katana from Tops with a timestamp from my computer and they left a "sold out" with the price point...

FWIW Akihabara BEEP does list items as "SOLD OUT" (in pink font) for at least a few days, before they are removed from the list. Games Kanaya does as well. Unfortunately I didn't take screenshots of these.

DSMBL full kit sold for $3400 on shmups forum today.

Was wondering how long that would take to sell. Now we've got two on the spreadsheet, meaning the only games that I only have 1 data point for would be DOJ Tamashii, Mushi Tama, and Deathsmiles II.

There was another DSMBL PCB (with copied art) on YAJ that sold on March 10th, 2018 for 379,000 yen. Here is the original link:

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h306844825

The link is no longer active, but many people quoted this auction.

Anyway, I'd add that to the list too.

Akihabara BEEP sold their DFK 1.5 PCB today. Total price including tax was 169,560 yen. Note it included the full art and instructions.

Also, the one that sold for 169k yen on YAJ a few days ago included only copied artwork.

Updated with that BEEP thing and edited my mistake on the other DFK. I figure I'll just leave the quoted price from the store list as the one for the spreadsheet - anything sourced from a store people can always discuss tax as well as the added difficulty of it requiring a proxy for in-store buying at most of those shops.

Nice of BEEP to leave the price with a "sold out" that I can screenshot with the date. I'm usually not quick enough to get shots when TRY sells something.

I think you need to note at least tax (8%) is extra in the case of BEEP. Several other stores include tax in their prices (Games Kanaya, Tops, TRY, etc). And you cannot buy from BEEP without paying the tax. You list some sales from Tops (e.g. Akai Katana), and it is misleading to directly compare Tops' prices with BEEP's because the former include tax while the latter do not.

The DSMBL and DFK BL that ended last week on YAJ for 300,000 yen each were relisted, as the buyer didn't pay. They both sold yesterday.

DSMBL went for 311,000 yen:

And DFK BL went for 302,000 yen:

Updated some stuff today. Went through a completed auction search of all the cave titles and found very little recently. Oh well.
