So I'm creeping up to the point where I think I'll be able to afford one of the lower-tier Cave PCBs.  I'm thinking a fun starter would be ESPGaluda II, being one of the handful of games neither playable in MAME nor having an immediate port.  What's the going rate for bare PCB/full kit?  Also, what about the bare PCB prices for Progear and Dodonpachi, any region?  Is Guwange still $600-ish?  I'm a bit hesitant to get something that's already been MAMEed as I doubt I'm to the level of fanaticism where having the board will be a better experience than just sitting at the computer, but I certainly do enjoy those three (and the Saturn port of DDP just feels too different).

For all you veteran PCB owners, what would be the best inexpensive bang-for-the-buck title to start out with?

Galuda II is a good start. You can get a bare PCB for $500 or so, kits are $600+.

I wouldn't bother with any of the games you can play in MAME, at least when you're starting out. They're all on the rise in price, and, well, you can play them in MAME.

Yeah, I figured if any of them were in the $2-300 range they might be a good first PCB, but again I'm not too convinced the experience is going to be mind-blowingly different from MAME.  Except for Guwange, which might be my favorite Cave game--I'd totally spend money on it anyways.

Galuda II was a lot of fun when I had the chance to play it in the arcade.  I'm working towards a 1CC on Espgaluda PS2 and realizing how much fun the Kakusei Overmode is on the sequel.  And again, there's the unemulated/unported aspect that makes it that much better.

Probably $1000+ (Fujita sold the kits for $1000 about a year and a half ago). Might want to dump that one on ebay, an auction is usually a good way to gauge a rare item's worth. I'd probably buy it, if you were interested in selling. Just to try it out, and document it in detail.

How much is a bare Guwange selling for? Still ~$600?
Don't really want to part with any of my boards, but if I have to sell, Guwange will have to be the first out of the door. ;_;

Question: How much is a Guwange box selling for?

Answer: Oh, I dunno, just about as much as the arcade board itself.

For a bare Guwange you could get at least $500, maybe a bit higher. $600 would probably be too much.

What's up with the 4 DOJ BL boards that G-front keeps re-listing on YAJ for a starting bid of 70k?  I thought pricelist prices on that board were way higher, but no one's bidding.

Do they think the port is actually going to get patched / rereleased, or is something else going on to lower the value?

The price dived after the port. Also, I think people are more aware of the suicide battery in it (and the pain in the ass it is to fix), and are thus less reluctant to plunk down a lot of cash on one.

40k sounds damn good to me, regardless of port and suicide.  Assuming that was a steal, what's a realistic price to try and find one for now?

I located a couple of NOS Espgaluda kits.

What would one of these be worth these days?

I've been boucing it in my head for a couple of days.  On one hand, bare boards are cheap.  On the other, there can't be a lot of NOS kits around these days.

In mint condition, Pink Sweets full kit, bugfixed version - I bought it from EOJ or Superpang, forget who now.

How much is it worth?  I just got hit with a monster car repair bill.

I'm wondering what a JP Progear (non-phoenixed) kit with box, full artset and manual - including comic flyer (but no poster) is worth these days?

Thanks guys!

I might be interested in getting either MMP or Pink Sweets.  Any idea how much for loose boards?  Neither has a suicide battery, right?

No suicide batteries to worry about. PS is pretty cheap (usually in the range of $500 shipped, give or take $50). MMP is pricier, at $700+. These are all bare board prices.

MMP is the better game, and will offer you more enjoyment, so I think it's worth the extra cash (if you can afford it).
