I adored III and IV as a teenager, but haven't played them much since. This looks interesting, but ?30 preorder is no kind of incentive for me, unless it will be subject to a very limited print run. Is this likely?

It's being published by Sega, so I don't think it'll be any limited print or anything. Just about every Sega PS2 game gets a good print, and is easy to find later. Only reason to pre-order is if you want it on release, of course.

Is this going to be the last PS2 Shmup?

While I'm a Thunderforce fan and my demand for the game is frothing, several things make me sceptical about the quality at present:

1) This appears to be based on TFV's design template rather than TFIV, meaning fixed-position screens, rather than the extended vertical height of TFIV's playfield. I quite liked the extended vertical height, you could hide more secrets and things with the extra space.

2) Free Range. -_-;; Looks like we'll have unbalanced weaponry again.

3) While I understand that they're recycling things for TFVI, they look to be doing a little too much for the environment - I see the Brigandine, the Rynex, some dragon-headed Guardian's Knight lookalike, Gargoyle Diver, that purple worm, something that looks like A3 with scales, fire and ice caverns, destroyed underwater city...

4) Hope they fix the scoring system, otherwise the game gets counterstopped.

October isn't too far away. Looking forward to ripping it to bits on release.

LOLwut. I don't spend all my waking hours playing them nowadays, unlike before.

clear screens. Looks pretty good. Let's hope the scoring system is decent.

Looks good. And re: score system - I hope so too, but the presence of Free Range and a score counter that goes into the billions doesn't leave me with a lot of hope.

Got this recently and it's pretty bleh. I've played it a few times but have little desire to go back to it. It screams "average console shmup".

One nice thing about it is you can display it in progressive scan (480p) if you hold circle and triangle during the boot-up.

Most people who got tried it these days aren't really enthusiastic. I always hated Thunder Force (yeah, beat me... but at least I tried every game of the series and even spent a 80$ on V SP just to strengthen my opinion :/), but I actually liked the screenshots of VI other than with V. I hoped it would be a bit like Gradius V, graphic and tempo-wise.

Its crap.

Well not terrible, but not worth $60 and about 7 years too late.

agreed. I got the chance to play it, along with Ketsui DS yesterday and TFVI was very underwhelming. Seemed like a game that relied entirely on nostalgia and little else....

Then my Daifukkatsu kit showed up and I forgot all about it :D

I love this game.  I am happy to finally realize Thunder Force VI  :righton:

Its not my favorite of the franchise however.

I have preference for Thunder Force III followed by Thunder Force II?

Thunder Force VI is a pleasant breath of fresh air and has brought me much enjoyment these past few weeks? It is shame that this game is very underrated and will be lost in shuffle before long especially being a late PS2 game  :'(
