Daifukkatsu boxed kit:

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c696236439

Seller says it's Ver 1.5, but the title screen is 1.0.  ;)

Seller pulled the auction after someone told him in the Q/A section that it's Ver 1.0.

It's back up again, this time listed as Ver 1.0, and (proxy) bidding is already underway.

Beat-up Ibara Kuro stickered box:

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k345661595

Sold for 31,500 yen to a proxy bidder. The last one on YAJ  in similar condition sold for 89,000 yen several months ago. So this is a good example of some of the wild price fluctuations we can find on such items.

Crazy price on that AK. Their last one, I think 2 months ago, was 228,000 yen. It sold in a few minutes, so they decided to nearly double the price this time.   :o

MMP blue Matsuri Poster sold for 12,300 yen, to a proxy bidder:

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u238787250

This poster was not rolled properly, so it has fold marks every few inches. That's what kept me from bidding on it.

Tops have changed the image used for their Akai Katana PCB listing to a picture of the instruction marquee. Previously it was a picture of the Limited Ver title screen. I bet they got tired of people emailing them asking if it was the Limited Ver.

Funnily enough at the price they're asking I'd be more inclined to believe it is the Limited Ver than the regular one.  :displeased:

Ended at 251,000 yen to a proxy bidder. The last one sold for 521,000 yen just last month! I am trying to understand why one would sell for more than double in such a short time period, but this one really puzzles me.

MAK Japan sold their Mushihime-Tama for 49,320 yens (PCB only) and their DoDonPachi for 124,200 yens (PCB only) during the weekend.
Suruga-Ya added: full kit of Akai Katana for 488,000 yens (but this one includes the kit poster! they also have another full kit for the same price), a Mushihimesama (PCB only) for 85,000 yens and an Espgaluda II full kit for 128,000 yens.

Yeah, now we have two Akai Katana kits for sale at Suruga-ya and one bare PCB at Tops, all over 420,000 yen. I don't think they'll sell at these asking prices, but the prices should drop over time. Suruga-ya started their AK kit at 549,000 yen a few months ago and have dropped it to 488,000 over time. I expect them to keep dropping the price gradually until it sells.

I just calculated Tops' current Cave inventory. They have 26 PCBs in stock for a total price of 5,333,040 yen. That is $46,952 USD.

I mean, I get it that they're a company and they see that they can charge this much because Capitalism and whatnot...

But I really wish there weren't people who were buying at those prices. It just makes everything inaccessible to everyone but the top-hat-and-monocles.

Their prices are way too high across the board, and they very rarely sell anything nowadays. I mean, they've sold a couple PCBs over the past 3 months, but most of their inventory has been sitting there for a LONG time. I think the prices of most of these games have reached the point where people are just saying "no thanks". And I've even seen Tops gradually lower the price of some PCBs (that have sat for months), which I don't recall them ever doing before.

I have a theory (and this is largely speculation, and I could be wrong) that the rise in Cave prices is linked to the Bitcoin boom. If you look at Bitcoin prices over the past 1-2 years and the rapid inflation in Cave PCBs (mainly by foreign buyers), they do seem to overlap. I think there were several Cave fans who had Bitcoin and cashed them in for PCBs. Now that Bitcoin has lost a large amount of its value (compared to a year ago), I see fewer cases of people willing to splash down huge amounts on Cave games. I don't think this is the only factor, but it might explain, for example, the set of crazy auctions prices for several Cave games that occurred on YAJ in August 2017, most of which have not been matched since.

I found it interesting to look at the list of prices Suruga-ya will pay to buy bare CAVE PCBs (they then resell them for significantly more):

LINK HERE

If I lived in Japan and wanted to sell some games, I'd certainly do this, as some of the offers they give are excellent, such as:

Mushi Matsuri 1.5 for 480,000 yen
SDOJ for 470,000 yen
DSMBL for 300,000 yen (they recently increased this offer after they sold a kit for 629,000 yen)
Akai Katana for 250,000 yen
DFK BL for 250,000 yen

However, they will only pay 200,000 yen for Ibara Kuro, which I think is a bit low. They currently have one in stock they are trying to sell for 418,000 yen, after all.

They have increased their offer price for Ibara Kuro from 200,000 to 260,000 yen (more than they will pay for Akai Katana or DFK BL), after they sold an Ibara Kuro PCB for 368,000 yen this month.

Ended at 35,501 yen, to a proxy bidder. Not too far off the last one, and a huge decrease from the one (in similar poor condition) that sold for 89,000 yen earlier in the year (which was clearly an anomaly).

Tops updated their list today with two additions: Deathsmiles for 199,800 yen and Espgaluda 2 for 109,080 yen. Both are in their higher priced "mint condition" category (which, as far as I can tell, simply means a cleaner JAMMA edge connector). They still have a Deathsmiles PCB and a Espgaluda 2 PCB for sale in the regular condition category, for slightly less.

Tops now have 30 Cave PCBs in stock and the only ones to sell in the past several months were a Muchi Muchi Pork in "mint condition" and a DSMBL in regular condition (with writing on the label). Their prices are just too high, across the board. I wonder how long they will hold out with these prices. After awhile, something's gotta give.

I guess it means scratches on the Jamma connector?
With electronic clean and a rag you will have the jamma connector like new in minutes.

Looking at pics of their "mint" PCBs, they don't look any different from most of their "regular" PCBs except the Jamma connector is nice and shiny silver. In fact, I've seen some of their "regular" PCBs that actually look better overall (in comparison to some of the PCBs they claim are "mint"), in regard to the cleanliness of the entire PCB.

Blast from the past. Here is Tops' for sale list from 25 January 2012:

Akai Katana    JPY 136,500
Ibara Kuro Black Label    JPY 99,750
Espgaluda    JPY 23,100
Espgaluda II    JPY 33,600
DeathSmiles    JPY 33,600
DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label    JPY 68,250
DoDonPachi Dai Fukkatsu ver.1.5    JPY 58,800
DoDonPachi Dai Fukkatsu Black Label    JPY 96,600
Mushihime Sama Futari ver.1.5    JPY 47,250
Mushihime Sama Futari Black Label    JPY 86,100
Muchi Muchi Pork    JPY 47,250

If you bought everything on that list except Akai Katana, it would cost just 594,300 yen, which is less than what they are currently asking for for DFK BL and Deathsmiles alone. Crazy!

Great list EOJ.

That Kuro...  =D

Some prices still fell from there, I bought a Akai Katana from TOPS in 2016 for JPY129,600.

Yeah, it's been interesting going back over the old price lists from 2009-2012. Tops used to email them and I have all those saved. Some time in 2012 they stopped emailing a list, and rather just emailed a link to their weblist.

They had a few more Ibara Kuro PCBs for cheaper after this, as low as 84k. One came with the original art/inst too.

I can't find any DSMBLs on their lists from 2009-2012, so I don't know what they were selling them for back then. Definitely wasn't a common used PCB at the time.

True, you almost never saw DSMBL for sale during that time in the shops.

Regarding when somethings gotta give, TOPS list is growing so they prolly have to lower some prices soon, then again they do sell from time to time.
I bought their DSMBL but that was only cos i was set on to get the game when someone snatched the one i was bidding on on YJ. ;)

Though i still see lots of containers with jamma-cabs coming into EU/US from Japan and those people often want original Jamma boards (Yeah, tons of wanted pandoras box ads can also be seen...  ???) and among those many wanted ads for Cave boards pops up.
