The flyer on Try's site says 15khz or 24khz which is just so fucking crazy it makes me pull on my balls a little.  Someone buy this thing.  I have a trisynch monitor to test it out on.

Yeah, that flyer apparently came from Cave, so it should be legit. SH3 didn't support 24khz AFAIK. So unless they added that feature to SH3, this must be a different PCB, right?

Unless its trying to say its for dual-sync monitors. I dunno. It would be unnecessary hassle for ops to switch to 24KHz. Flyers must have been done by the work experience boy.

We'll be expecting a super play a week after release.
..for 30k on YAJ.

Would seem so..  Obvious reasons to swap PCBs...
-Lower cost
-Enhance capability
-Allow easier updates (HDD / Ethernet)
-Get on a platform that eases ports
-Components got end of life'd

I can see moving toward something that more closely resembled the Xbox architecture, but with DFK they already had SH3 code to tweak for BL.  Unless they already have the ported code ready to go and just want to trickle out their ports.  At this stage with SH3 I can't see another revision like they did for DFK / MBL.

I don't suppose anyone can get HEY to lift the skirt so someone can get a quick peek underneath..

Additional location tests:

12/18-23rd - Namba Hills, Osaka
12/25-31st - Casino Kyoomachi, Fukuoka

http://am-net.xtr.jp/game/profile.cgi?_v=1260703432

Damn, wish I knew about the Osaka one this past weekend, I might have made a trip down there. Won't have time this week. :-\

BTW on that link they say the PCB is 15/24khz, but they also say it's a CV-1000, which is the SH3 PCB number (SH3 is CV-1000B, while SH3-b is CV-1000D). Must be a modified SH3, or perhaps the SH3-b could do 24khz optionally? Anyway, it's definitely not some hdd/dongle garbage, which is good news.

EDIT: Cave's page says the Casino location test goes until the 31st, so I've updated the post with that info.

-Astronomically higher cost when you consider development, unless they've got some type of emulator on really powerul hardware... and they've uh... repainted the sprites to suit the most unused resolution in the industry?  I smell shit.

We yeah, agreed for sure on this particular release... which is what we're discussing I suppose.  When I was thinking lowered cost, I was considering future releases whereby they might be able to reduce total cost when you also consider the time that goes into the ports.

I got a reply from Tops:

PCB OF DODONPACHI DAIFUKKATSU B/L IS CV-1000 TYPE PCB.

So it is as we assumed :D
The future of ST-V rests upon our work and your work

Well, they're basically pissing away 5 years worth of libraries... well, they have to port them, and it's probably easier to write them from scratch in most cases.   That's a ton of work, and is likely why we've only seen 75% of a game on the new hardware.

Has anyone found out if the possability of 24khz or 31khz is true?

I think, as it is SH3 hardware, it will only be in 15khz.

Some vertical vids on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5u49vu0MQ4

There are a bunch of horizontal vids there too, but you have to rotate your monitor to properly view those.

The vids show strong style, and the bullet patterns look similar to 1.5's second loop. Thus, I'm starting to think this game won't loop.
If so, I think that's the best thing to happen to Donpachi ever. I don't like playing loops.

I'm sure it won't loop. There seem to be no extends, and the difficulty already dips into Futari Ultra in the red zone, so it's going to be one of Cave's hardest games even if it won't loop. I can't even begin to fathom the horror that would be DFKBL's second loop all these things considered.

Also, this moment from the first video made me chuckle. Superplay DVD-worthy. :P
<dan76> As it is I'll have to endure high res - life's hard.

EOJ

The no extends things is typical of Cave location test versions, so you can expect them in the final build. I agree on all other accounts.

What are we seeing in that video for a display?  Is that just an LCD for spectators?

EOJ

Yep. Same thing the Futari Black Label location test had.

Oh, didn't know that. Anyway, this seems to be a very good release and a major improvement in nearly all respects that I can speak about not having played DFK. In fact I can't even say if I don't like anything about this game, which is pretty rare for me. :D

Interesting to know that I was right in near-entirety of my speculation in this post. I sure hope bosses actually do time-out, though.

So did Cave not have DFKBL playable at the festival?  I haven't seen any mention so I think not..  but why?

EOJ

Nope, it wasn't there. It's still on location test in one Japanese arcade (until tomorrow). I think they were mainly focused on the console stuff for this festival.

I definitely agree there. DFK not looping would be awesome. I hope it will be hard enough and not too unforgiving with deaths and bombs.

EOJ

According to the latest Cave blog post Black Label will have a completely new soundtrack (by Basis).

bcass

I assume that means Basiscape (who have previously done some Cave remix projects)?

Kewing

Excellent. Personally, DFK isn't one of my most favourite CAVE's soundtracks, so I'm hoping the change will be for even better and they actually release it on CD sometime.

Monouchi

For me everything about DFK is so awesome!   ....except the music.
Hope the new music is awesome...cos then everything is awesome!   ...did I mention awesome!

bcass

I haven't played the game, but I have heard the OST and for the most part it's of very poor standard, so yeah, these remixes are a good idea.

Kewing

I wouldn't say very poor, but more like unfitting. Half of it sounds a bit too "happy" and more suited to games like Mushihime (stage2, no comment....). Still, the trhowbacks to previous songs in the series when you trigger the old DDP bosses are awesomely done, and the boss themes are actually real good, mostly the LastBoss and TLB.

adverse

Stage 2 music is awesome if you get the laser chain boost off the tank mid-boss.

Kewing

Indeed, the homage to DOJ's stage 2 music there is what I really like about that one, but the rest of the song sounds way too happy. Not bad per se, but highly unfitting.
Just my opinion, though.

bcass

I do like the true last boss music, there's something really manic about it, especially when the voice kicks-in, but I was very unimpressed by the rest of it.  When you compare it all the the brilliant DOJ OST, I think it pales a lot.
