I think Pink Sweets style 'enemy dolls' as the bosses as well as playable characters gives Cave the opportunity for a merchandising lolli-fest. As long as it's still player controlled ships in-game, it won't matter.

I think they will keep the spaceships, as yeah, it wouldn't be much of a DDP "revival" if they didn't have them.
But I wouldn't be surprised to see the bosses be character-driven w/ Element doll pilots, similar to Ibara, or, alternatively, the pilots be the Element doll lolis and have brief manga-style story sequences before boss fights, like in Pink Sweets. Maybe the bosses and characters will both be Element dolls! So the game will be a huge element doll fight (IKD did call it a "huge fight").
In other words, a super loli slap fight with bees everywhere.

IKD said the designers wanted to make the story centered on the Element dolls, so they're obviously going to be the main focus of the game. It's funny though, even on 2ch some of the Japanese guys there are now getting worried about this game after reading the IKD interview. For much of the same reasons some people here are worried. They don't want it all mucked up with the loli factor.

Seriously after this interview im a little excited about the game
for a change, also got alot to do with playing DDP DOJ abit and starting
to get into the flow of the game.

It's not that there's a problem with the hentai-ish stuff per se, it's just that it doesn't belong in
a Dodonpachi game. They should keep the series pure to its roots.

Ah, ok thats understandable but from what i played there are Dolls in the game
just not as much or in your face as say a game like Ibara :D

I dont mind either way, i would prefer spaceships or aircraft in my Shmup games too
but after playing Ibara and ESP Galuda i dont mind either way.

As long as the game is fun and enjoyable then what does it matter?

The DOJ had just the right amount of panty shots -- basically in the ending, and that's it.  I can see the following make the general DDP population hate it:

-Watered down difficulty
-1-Loop
-Too much loli, not enough space ship
-Not enough cowbell, for lack of a better word

I'm looking forward to it.  I'll have my video camera in hand as I queue for 2 fucking hours to play it at the AOU show.

It's a bit disturbing that it seems he/they were under some pressure to do this. I wonder if it was 'pressure to make another DDP' or 'pressure to release something that makes more money, of which we know DDP is a sure-thing'. Just gives me the feeling that some of those "merchants" are feeling the sting of some of the underperforming releases. Which makes me worry about the whole Yagawa thing...

My guess is they aren't going to deviate all that far from the tried-and-true DDP formula, especially if the decision was partly motivated by 'we need a big seller'.

Maybe in this iteration your ship SHOOTS dolls!

Ikeda has stated basically forever that he flat out does not like sequels.  He even said it again in the Black Label interview, that DOJ was intended to be the end (hence the subtitle).  As such, any sequel can be seen as "pressure" from the higher ups.  I think the why is very simple to figure out.

Gyousha was the word, and it can basically be construed as anyone other than consumers.  I don't think stock holders really fits though.  I took it more to be operators than anyone.

Note the dolls in sailor outfits.:/ You see some planes flying around too, in the other artwork, and that looks pretty cool. But overall this has me worried a little. Looks all cute and girly, and not very DDP-esque.

First details about the game are trickling in from 2ch:

There are four buttons: shot, ship ability change, rapid, hyper.
When you press the hyper, all the bullets in your path are destroyed with your shot (!!). The ship ability change shifts from a slow but weak ship type to a strong (and fast?) ship type. Apparently the game is very difficult from the get-go.

Sounds fun and much more interesting than I anticipated, but doesn't sound much like DDP (other than the difficulty).

Apparently the bosses are the dolls. The second boss is supposed to be similar to Exy.

Still waiting for the first pics/vids to appear!

UPDATE: According to Am-net, this game will be released in APRIL.

The bullets are gorgeous blue and purple patterns (that look very similar to Mushi actually), and the bosses look awesome.

Yeah I saw that, but I think that was a hyper? Apparently the hyper makes your laser black, and it cancels bullets out. Perhaps functions more or less like a bomb as well.

I wrote about this in message #57 in this thread. However, looking at the POP, I notice something different:

A= Shot (Laser)
B = ability change [BOMB STYLE OR POWER SHOT STYLE]
C= Fullauto
D= Hyper counter mode

So it looks like the B button toggles a mode with bombs, or a stronger shot. Must have a gauge or something to limit the amount of times you can switch.
