I recently came up with the idea of a competition involving photographs of Cave games. I think it will be completely awesome, so let's get started!

Rules
You may photograph any Cave game (PCB, port, iOS, or DS), but not more than one. You may include just the screen, or zoom out more to show your set up and/or cab. No direct feed shots are allowed. All photographs must be made during the competition period - if it is found the photograph was created earlier, or was swiped from somewhere else, the winner will be disqualified and banned. Experiment with different angles, different lighting, and different bullet patterns in game. No photoshop or other photo-editing software is allowed. We're just judging creative photos. But you can use any effects built in your camera to take the picture.

Submission
All pictures must be posted in the submission thread (http://www.cave-stg.com/forum/index.php?topic=1102) to be eligible. All members registered before the deadline are eligible to submit except mods, myself, and banned members. Only one submission is permitted per member, and only your first submission will count, so do not submit a picture until you are absolutely sure.

Judging
You will be judged on both the artistic quality of the entire picture, as well as the artistic quality of the scene in the Cave game you choose to capture. Focus on interesting bullet patterns, color patterns, and item patterns on the screen.

Decision
The cave-stg.com mod team will vote along with myself. Our decision will be completely subjective, like all artistic competitions!

Prize
The winner will get a brand new copy of Pink Sweets/Muchi Muchi Pork for the Japanese X360 upon its release in February 2011!

Deadlines
Deadline for submission is December 31st at 11:59:59 pm, Hawaii Standard Time. Decision will be announced on the front page on January 8th. The winning member will be notified by PM.

how will you verify whether a submission is an actual photograph, or a picture grabbed from google.co.jp?

EOJ

Mainly the honor system, but we will also check all pics (via searches on the web) for authenticity after their submission.  :) If someone sees someone cheating (i.e. they find the image swiped from elsewhere), then they should alert the mods.

As there is over a month between the decision date (Jan 8th) and the release of the game (Feb 2011), there should be plenty of time to smoke out a cheater before the shipment of the prize, in the event a cheater wins.

I really hope people will have fun with this, and embrace the artistic nature of it. It would be awesome to have a thread full of dozens of creative pictures of Cave games running!

Maybe you should rename this thread into Photograph competition discussion thread and make a new one just for the pictures so we have one thread that has all the photos in it without comments in between. Just a thought.

I already have 3 great ideas for a photo, now the hard part of deciding which one to take.

Hive

I'd like to participate, but I don't think a shitty cell phone camera pic will cut it as its my only camera, and I imagine a lot of folks here have dlsr's to make some really nice photos.

SuperPang

I know I can't win but I might enter for a larf. My current camera aint so hot with the cab photos though.

Protip: Any picture of a PGM hardware game will win my vote.

Monouchi

This is fun.

Will finish up my Super Egret II and make some photos.  :)

HVL

Superb idea and prize. I'll be looking forward to the submissions. :righton:

He meant it as "laugh" but "lark" is just a very old fashioned way of saying it.

I thought about doing this but it seems I can't be arsed.

Well Hallo Govnah! Fancy a cup o' tea? Had too many crisps, off to the loo.

Alright, that was pretty bad.

Not sure exactly what you mean here.

"Larf" to "Laugh" is like "Hallo" to "Hello", yes - but "Lark" and "Hallo" are completely different. "Lark" is an actual word and "Hallo" is just a pronounciation difference.

Hive

lol EOJ.

I think at Thanksgiving dinner I'll announce to my family that I'm switching to British English accent only. =P
It will seem I am a whole different person to them, like an exchange student from Abingdon~

I think the competition is a great idea.  Things like this make me wish I was a better photographer.  I seem to struggle just to make a mint condition arcade kit look decent when I've got one for sale.

Kaneda

Does it matter if we're the one playing the game? Seems kind of hard to aim the camera while also playing.

And are you judging more something cool on the screen or the quality of the photo that features a Cave game? I could dress up my dog to look like a mariachi band member and sit her in front of Dodonpachi and I'm sure it would look darling, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

fuse

As a keen photographer, I am very interested in this. Whilst I'm sure no-one here is enough of a dick to swipe something from elsewhere, a good place to check the validity is TinEye which is a reverse image search engine.

As a Brit however, you lot disgust me
