Welcome to the Mushihimesama Cave Matsuri Ver 1.5 high score thread. Scores for the X360 Arrange mode are also accepted here.

Rules: no continues, and default live stock, difficulty, and extends.

...'Survival'? Never heard of him.

A couple of credits in (plus some stage 1 restarts), this is really awesome. I figure a clear with this sort of play will net a minimum of 200m, but we'll see. Maybe higher once I find safe ways to pointblank things. Will probably make a vid showing some early strats shortly.

Small improvement:

ORIGINAL MAX
163,951,829 - SPZ - Stage 4 - X360

Got even less far since I decided it'd be a good idea to get hit four times in under a minute in stage 4, but the first two stages are coming together very nicely. Had 32k counter on reaching the 1st boss and 60k on reaching the second. I guess I'll have to up my estimate to 250-300m for a first clear, haha.

Also wow, Maniac MAX is way harder than it looked. EOJ, what do you find the best configuration for rapid settings are here? I can't figure out what I should be doing for the life of me.

In Original MAX Rank doesn't decrease much when you die, so you'll have a really hard time trying to clear this unless you keep the counter low. Counter maxes out at 99,999 btw. ABI has a 1.1 billion replay up, but no clear (not even close).

Same scoring in Maniac and Maniac MAX. It's pretty simple - it's just like Maniac/Ultra in regular Mushi, but you can counterbank and skyrocket normal enemies in the stages, and skyrockets go up much higher on midbosses. So imagine Mushi but with 30x more button tapping in every stage (or rapid fire button presses, if you're smart about it). Just like in regular Mushi, you can only do this with W-Power.

That's how it seems, yeah. The scoring is just too addictive for me to not give it a shot though, haha. My current runs are ending stage 1 with 40-45k and triggering 50k/yellow mode a little past the second midboss, which makes everything beyond that point terrifying. Averaging 120-130m for the first two stages, and not really making any headway past that point yet. Probably a good idea to hold back a little from stage 3 onwards for now, it's too risky for me to keep doing that kind of thing - I suspect my score would be higher if I just made further progress into the game.

First credit into this mode, no misses or bombs used. :laugh: It still feels like a pretty nice mode, as easy as it is; as Iconoclast said, reaching 100m could be an interesting project. Might make nice training wheels for people learning Original Max.

Though I also didn't have the magic power of the 360 d-pad...

@EOJ thanks, I'm going to try out the scoring when I can get off of SDOJ

@TimingTripod40 if you want to get good at the easier modes, play the harder Max versions for a week (regardless of doing well or not) and then go back to the easy ones and you will blaze through them. Easy/Novice modes only work on paper or to not turn some people off of a game due to initial frustrations but they don't make you better faster. Not in my experience. Really you're better off with the opposite.

Sure. Original non-max used M-Power, while Original Max used W-Power. I'm going to upload the 1.5 Original non-Max run to show the port off a bit, currently working on a no miss 1.0 run too for comparison. This version has quite a bit more bite to it, though. ;)

Thanks. In case you don't know, the top Ori MAX score is 1.33bil now (w/ replay), ends at the end of the stage 5 boss (just misses a 1CC). Do you have access to the online leaderboards? I don't see any of your scores there.

There's a 103mil ALL in Original up on the leaderboards too, but he dies once in stage 5, so 115+mil is definitely possible.

I had leaderboard access yesterday when I went over to another house to redeem the DLC and such, where I was also able to download ABI's current reply for some pointers on how to play Original Max; I haven't managed to get the 360 connected to the internet where I'm living right now though, something I'm hoping to rectify soon (although I'm not entirely sure what the technical issue is, honestly). I'll be at a house where connecting isn't an issue in a few weeks, so I should be able to put some stuff on the leaderboards then. For now though, if I get a nice run I'll upload it manually to YouTube.

Here's the 1.5 Original run. Apologies for the green flicker, I think my capture card needs replacing. :(

Interesting stuff about the current high scores... wonder how high they'll get pushed.

I got an 800,000+ counter on the Stage 4 midboss (my highest ever there), but other than that my scoring wasn't too hot. Stage 3 was a mess.

Just a general comment: The first half of Stage 4 in Maniac is a nightmare.

Much better Stage 3 this time, I carried a 700K counter over the second half and ended with nearly a million on the counter. Stage 4 was crap - I died at the midboss and scraped by with just 200K on the counter - that death cost me at least 500mil. Stage 5 was crap, didn't even make it to the boss.

Should have cleared, but did some monumentally idiotic stuff during the last two stages. Most of these points came from stage 3; still learning the ropes, but started to get a vague idea of how this system works. I'm having trouble trying to pick between the slow A tapping, the powershot or the close-up rapid C much of the time, though. I assume it's something to do with building up laser counters, but I'm having trouble juggling this while not dying so far.
