CAVE 12/2006 (PCB)

This is the Mushihimesama Futari Version 1.5 high score thread. Version 1.5 is an update to the original version.

Rules: no continues, and default live stock, difficulty, and extends. Submit in the order shown in the table. The PCB has separate rankings for each character in Original, Maniac, and Ultra modes, so similar rankings have been set up here except with Ultra mode, where there is only one ranking.

Key for all tables:
SCORE - NAME - STAGE (LxX for ALL scores) - Abnormal/Normal - PCB/XBox 360

LxX for ALL scores indicates how many spare lives you finished the game with (for example, if you finish the game with 2 spare lives, list it as Lx2, if you finish the game with no spare lives, list it as Lx0)

One death in the middle of Stage 1, one on the Stage 2 midboss, another on the Stage 2 boss, and ended my game right before the Stage 3 midboss. The first two deaths were stupid - I usually no miss the first stage now.

Almost made it to the Stage 3 boss! Got the counter up to 40K in Stage 3. My Stages 1 & 2 are getting much more consistent, and with some more practice I should be ending Stage 2 with 400-500mil (I ended with 375mil in this run). It's amazing how Ultra actually becomes "doable" once you practice enough. Also, the more I play Ultra, the more I feel it's better than God Mode (though admittedly less inviting).

I'm tempted to switch back to the "extends @ every 80mil" setting, as I think I could pretty easily get to Stage 4 at this point, but I think I'll stick with the defaults for the time being as I'm finding the challenge very satisfying.

I seem to increase by about 100mil every time I get a new high score.

The best part of this run was that I no missed Stage 2 for the first time. I ended the stage with 465 mil. It would have been 500mil, but I totally screwed up the boss's first form, costing me around 50mil. Got to stage 3 with 2 spare lives, but got a bit nervous and fudged things soon after the midboss.:/

Now I need to start practicing the second half of Stage 3, and start learning Stage 4.

Well, for now I'm aiming to get to stage 4, with over 1 billion. I think if I really focused on it I could eventually get to the Stage 5 boss, but clearing the whole game with both TLBs? Probably not something I'm ever going to do. I do think I could do that with the extends at every 80mil, however, and I think I'll try that some time. But in the grand scheme of things only the scores on defaults really matter.

Ultra is a memorizer (reminds me of Ikaruga in this regard) - not just for score, but for simple survival. It also takes some skills of course, but probably 90% of it is just memorizing the best possible routine (from the DVD) and carrying it out flawlessly - there is about zero room for improvisation. Once you do this parts of stages that seemed impenetrable before become far less daunting. The problem is most people give up too soon. I hadn't played Ultra in quite some time, but 2 days ago for some reason I felt like just focusing on it. After like 5 credits I beat my old score, and after 2 days I'm up to 513 mil. I also think playing and clearing God mode before this was good training/preparation.

I doubt that anyone of us, ever has the dedication to reach the stage 5 boss. Reaching stage 5 alone is a great feat, it would be absolutely awesome, if you could ever do this! Good luck!

Agreed. It is a lot of fun, but I can't seem to stop playing Maniac when I get time on it. Been playing too much ESPrade. Still working on that 1cc. Had my Futari kit for two or three weeks and have played maybe 10 credits. :oops:

I got a new high of 554mil in Maniac mode tonight, but 1)I didn't get the clear (ended at the stage 5 boss), and 2)I totally fucked up an easy 40-50 mil in stage 5.

I'll post a score later, when I can stop screwing stuff up. Playing stage 5 again is really hard after playing Black Label so much (BL's stage 5 is really easy compared to 1.5's).

The good news is my stage 2 pattern is getting much better: I ended ST2 with 271mil in this run, my highest yet.

I agree (on the stage 5 bit). I bought this, but it's hard to get into. I'm horribly busy w/ a ton of shit, and I'm kind of weened off of Maniac due to God. So, I'll likely sell here pretty soon. Too expensive to collect dust.

I'm kind of in the same boat, although I won't be selling anytime soon. I have been playing a few other titles and this seems to stay on the back burner.
Dave's (my shmup buddy) is hanging out with me this weekend and I'm hoping that we'll play a lot of this. The game is super beautiful and the soundtrack is very good, so it's hard to write it off. I know there's a lot of depth there so I'm excited about getting into it.

I think I like 1.5's maniac mode more than God mode. I love the skill involved with finding the best small Ketsui-ish chains and the split second timing needed for large gems and the multiplier. I've watched TAC's 1+bil Maniac DVD a lot recently, and it's really given me a renewed appreciation for the game. I also prefer 1.5's Normal Reco to the MFBL Reco.

Then again, maybe when I see a 5+bil God mode replay, I'll change my mind.
