Some Japanese players are already credit-feeding the game.

Message 542. The guy says "no one was there in the afternoon, so I kept continuing through the game. Unfortunately when a lot of people come, I can't practice like that".

I went there today, but didn't have the patience to queue.
It's at the Taito Station on the "safe" side of the east exit. Not the one near Don Quixote/Kabukicho. Not too far from Mitsukoshi.

GaijinPunch

Just got back.  It's indeed not the Taito Station I was thinking of.  It's not a bad game center, I must say.  Lots of old shit.  Anyways, the queues weren't that bad either, but I only got 3 credits in.  It was thinning out around 22:30.  From what I can tell w/o looking back at the AOU show vid:

-Level difficulty is upped a bit, but not a ton
-Boss difficulty is WAY higher...the patterns are more cavey though
-Graphical tweaks.  In hyper mode, there's a cool black circle around
-Bees switch color between green & orange.  The sound when you get them sounds like a high pitched insert credit sound from ESPGaluda (on the PCB only, of course).

Most people were getting to stage 3.  It took me my 3rd try.  First try, I kept hitting bomb instead of hyper (different buttons), and on my second try, I no missed up to the second boss with 200 million, and died three times.  So shitty.  Stage 3 is pretty hard.  There was only one person I saw go through all four stages while I was there.

Ast-Kot

The game is  so good and very difficult is very high especially against the boss...;)
The graphic is good specially when u enter in the power up mode..:/

One thing I forgot to mention.  The lasers are much less phallic looking this time.  The ends are sharper.

So the bosses are more difficult because they have harder patterns or they're more durable now or both? Are the graphics improved all around or are there just new, little touches like the black circle when in hyper mode? Minus the stupid transformer-into-stupid-girlbot bosses, this release has me really excited.

cannonball

This game is really sounding great.  I envy you guys in Japan getting to join in on the loke test.

The boss patterns are harder, but also more Cave-ish.  The second boss is actually quite tricky... some tight spots you have to get through.  The first one is easy.  Never made it to the third.  The graphical improvements are touches here and there... not reworded sprites (which isn't a surprise).  The bosses are still transformers, FYI.

One other note... I'm going to go out on a limb and say that at least in this version, bombs don't damage the bosses.  They give you invisibility and clear the screen, but unless you're firing, the bosses life bar doesn't go down.  Maybe the bomb has to be on the boss?  Speculation?  Hm....

No extends in the loke test either, but that's normal.

Shalashaska

Thanks for the info GP and a few more questions. :D Is there only the one bomb type or do they still have the "laser bomb" and is there only one "level" of hyper now (compared to DOJ where you could have 1-5)?

GaijinPunch

Good questions:

There is indeed only a "bomb" now.  To offset this, there are two types of ships you select at the title screen:
Bomb type (orthodox) or Power type.  Power type has zero bombs, ever in the game, but with the bomb button, you toggle between a powered up shot and laser (at any time).

There is also only one level of hyper.  If you'll look, the hyper gauge fills up, then flashes until you trigger it.  It seemed to me that the second hyper session was longer than the first, so perhaps they get incrementally longer?  Just a hunch at this point really, as I only played a few credits.

sven666

so the bomb bonus has been completely removed?

zap

I might head out there tomorrow after school around 1-2. Don't hesitate to greet a long-haired foreigner ;)

EOJ

The second loke test will begin on 4/10 at Club Sega in Akiba. It will also be at two other places (Asobi Space Magical in Kobe and Casino Kyoumachi in Fukuoka). Still not at Hey arcade for some reason.

Nice pic. I like the Futari BL poster on the wall. I also see a Futari BL in the cab next to the Deathsmiles.:righton:

Yeah... it's got tacks through the Pop.  Kind of brutal, actually.

So, how long do these loke test dealies usually last, anyway?

It's my first week of class, but I was thinking I could make the pilgrimage to Kobe on Saturday...

GaijinPunch

This one at Taito Station is a week 04.04 - 04.10.
Not sure about the others.  They are as quick as a day, as long as week.   For some games, if it's close enough to release (and it's a final version) they just leave it at some lucky arcade.  Cave generally doesn't do this though.

Loke test 4/10 - 4/16 at Club Sega Akihabara.

I just got back from my 2nd day in Kobe. DDP:DFK is hard.

Watching the locals play revealed something cool, however:
meeting certain conditions will cause DDP bosses to appear instead of the normal midbosses!
The dude I spoke with with kind of unsure, but he thinks that if you aggressively destroy the three tanks at the beginning of level 1 (possibly using the aura), then you are rewarded with a full-screen warping effect that takes you to the left where you meet the 1st boss of DDP upgraded with laser attacks. When I saw this my eyes nearly popped out of my head. On level two, when you reach a highway crossing your path, a portal will open up and out rolls the DDP level 2 boss. The guy thinks that performing the trick on level one unlocks the bosses on all levels. Never saw if anything happens on level 3.

PS: I was unable to reproduce this trick. :P

That sounds really cool. I'll be sure to check it out more when I go to Akiba this week. (Haven't been there since.. uh, the Border Down re-release?)

Plasmo

That sounds absolutely brilliant! I love secret bosses more than anything!

GaijinPunch

Pretty cool stuff.  Might have been added to the latest version, previously unavailable in the other loke tests.  There were definitely people that knew what they were doing at Taito Station, and I never saw anything like that.

Great vid of stage 3. It looks like a stiff challenge. I love the part at the end with the rotating core with the lasers firing - reminds me a lot of ST4 in Ikaruga.

Ah Ikaruga, definately my favorite game ever! I'd love to have that in my cab, be a bit extravagant though considering I've got the dreamcast version....

where were we again?

oh right! DFK!

You're not kidding about the difficulty! I reckon I'll be seeing myself die a heck of a lot in this one.
