Title: My new Mushi PCB [and a visual indicator for a bugfixed PCB]
Post by: EOJ on January 16, 2008, 07:10:28 PM
It saves scores! I've been through lots of Mushi PCBs in search of one that saves scores, and I finally found one. The saved scores were pretty low too (19mil in Original, 135mil in Maniac, and the default 10mil in Ultra).
I got a 9.9mil Original score and it saved to second place after power down. Likewise, I got a Maniac score that saved.

This is a PCB from the first pressing of the game (with the expansion port, serial number 26XX). I had previously thought only the small number of M-XXXX boards, which were reprogrammed Mushi Tama PCBs, could save scores. But this proves me wrong.

Now I have to check to see if it is a bug-fixed version (which might explain why it can save scores properly)!

Just checked, and this PCB is a bug-fixed version! Got to the TLB with the 2P, and there was no reset, unlike all my previous boards. So, that explains why the scores save properly.

Finding one of these is like finding a needle in a (very expensive) haystack. Also of note is there is no service sticker or any other indication the PCB has been fixed.

I just noticed something on my startup screen:

I don't recall having the dot before the "Master Ver." on my previous PCBs. Can anyone with an unfixed Mushi PCB confirm?

If this is a visual indicator of the bug-fix, that would be quite nice.

If I remember correctly Dave.K has a non bugfixed version, maybe ask him for a piccie.

Here is an analysis hosted by oxtsu:

There is a boot up picture inside there but I don't know if that is the
bugfixed version.

@GP: You have a fixed one, right? I'm looking for someone with an unfixed board.

I think the version is the same on both fixed and unfixed - look to see if there is a dot before the "MASTER VER."

Thanks jpj.

So this confirms that the bug-fixed Mushi has a dot before and after the "MASTER VER".

Brill, haven't had hobnob's for ages :D

Might need to update this now :D

I wonder if there are other SH-3 date strings we can compare...
Pink Sweets springs to mind.

Did a wee bit of sleuthing today :D

So what kind of version do I have ? I know it's not
the bugged version because I have credit fed to the
end in ultra mode  to test it.

http://home.online.no/~an-tj/versions/

I asked Dave_K as well and he contributed an image.

Maybe you could post this info at shmups.com as well EOJ ?

How about you all taking some pictures of your Pink Sweets ?

So I guess you just need a dot before or after the "MASTER VER"?
Pretty weird.

I suspect one dot is one revision and two dots indicates a newer revision.

If so, what are the differences between the two revisions? Mine saves scores and there's no 2P Ultra mode bug.
Isn't that the same on your board, rtw?

I have no idea if mine saves scores since they are so high that I cannot
beat them :D

lacking a master version string when the game starts up ?

Master version string? I'm not sure what that means. After the boot up screen, I get the copyright screen that says "Master Ver 2006/4/6".

yes, I get the first one. I'm pretty sure the second one is just due to his monitor cutting off the bottom part of the screen. ;)

You get the period at the end as well "MASTER VER." ?

If the monitor is cutting of a part of the screen, I'll wager a guess
that he can't see any of the information on the bottom of the screen.

Yes. If you look at his photo compared to Dave's, it's clear it's simply his monitor cutting off the bottom
part of the screen. Otherwise the text would be in the same position as Dave's pic and the bottom part would simply be empty. Plus I've
seen hi score photos from Jpj, and his screen is cropped on both sides and the top and bottom.

I forgot to mention this, but there's a way to see if your board saves scores even if you can't beat the scores:
1)Look to see if any of the Maniac mode scores are out of order, and 2)Look to see if any of the Maniac scores are identical to any of the Ultra mode scores. If either of these are confirmed, then you have the high score saving bug on your board.
