New cellphone game released yesterday (december 1st) for Japan, at a price of 315 yen a month. It contains all 5 stages from the arcade version:

It's a fun idea, but it would be nice if they'd just put a bit more effort into making scaled-down versions for proper handheld systems with the processing power and input methods to make use of them instead of churning out identical, crappy phone ports.  Then again, they can just slap together a generic shooter with heavily-reduced Futari sprites, add a few of the unique scoring gimmicks, and charge an easy 315 yen per month for it--good returns for a minimum of effort.  If it was a proper portable outing, buyers would expect a bit more quality for the inevitablr 4,000+ yen price tag.  I'd just like to see Cave (Arika) adapting more of their titles for handheld systems in a way that works with the target hardware, instead of trying to shove a stripped-down fascimile of the games onto platforms entirely unsuited for them.
