Very surprising email from ECL in my inbox this morning. It seems IGS are marketing Daioujou for Taiwan on the PGM2 system, much in the same way as they did with KOF 98 UM (blue hardware).
Anyone heard any details?

It's $900 for the "full set including motherboard"
I asked about artwork, so I'm guessing this is what the full set is.
Do you think this is to do with the AMI thing ending? Re-release on PGM2 seems really weird though
No weirder than KOF 98 UM and it will be a lot less work than that being PGM based. I forgot about AMI's distribution rights ending. That will have helped :)
But why not DOJ BL?
DOJ can be had for ?250 / $400. Ketsui and DOJ BL still demand a premium. Seems daft. If it drops to $400-500 like all the other PGM2 titles I might get semi interested.
I'm hoping its a v3.0 with a few things borrowed from BL. I can't imagine its a huge departure from either but if it aint broke..
A dream come true. Cavegames on cartridges.
Maybe we will get a 4 player support.:)
Did anybody know the difference between the red and blue motherboards?
Doesn't the title for this version actually read: Dodonpachi Daioujou Tamashi?

Allegedly so, But what does that mean?
So Ketsui on cart soon?

Tamashii = "soul"
Still REALLY curious about this one. Anyone seen/played it?
Wich modifications had king of fighters for the pgm2? Anybody knows?
-Maybe we will get this kind of polish for DOJ, too.
Here is a picture of a huge DOJ-PGM poster: http://www.ampress.co.jp/ampo_latest.htm
There was a post on Mihara's blog the other day where he confirmed the PGM version is the same version of the game, just with Cantonese text.
"Another ver" indeed.
Yeah please folks don't burn 900 bucks on this.
What about the pellet power?
Hong Kong retailer hype machine.
I guess that's one less game that will sit around my apartment. Current one: DSIIX LE still in the wrapper. :)
Writeup on the game (it's now playable at Mikado Arcade) w/ pics and a 25min video:

It has both an "Easy" mode and an "Original" mode (Black Label is not included). Original's bullets don't speed up as much as in the original DOJ, so maybe they toned down the rank. Some boss patterns are also different, apparently easier. Not sure about Easy mode, but it seems to have a separate scoreboard.
Finally, the board saves scores after power down!
Also note the title screen says "2010 Cave".

Does the PGM2 have stereo sound, or just plain mono? That's the only reason I see for ever owning one of these instead of the PCB (except for it saving scores).
The extends are set down to 10 and 30 mio. BL was 20 and 50, regular DOJ at 40 and 90 if I'm not mistaken.
You are, though, regular DOJ was 10 and 30 as well.
Cheers EOJ. This is back on my wanted list now. Next price cut perhaps.
Have any vendors had price cuts to date on this?

PGM2 only has mono which is a big shame.
I played Easy mode the other day and while it was indeed easier, it wasn't the pushover I was expecting. Otherwise, seemed like the same ole DOJ, so unless you're a real collector I wouldn't bother buying the cart.
I have this
I'm no DOJ hexpert and it's been several months since I played it (and that was BL) so I find it hard to spot differences in Original mode. Most people who've seen the Nico footage seem to concur bullets are a tad slower. Easy mode however, is really rather neat. Like Kaneda said, it's no "Novice" mode that's for sure but the more you play, the more you notice, especially later in the game. Certain bullet patterns are significantly slowed down and some of the more manic ones (bosses etc) are reduced. Basically, it's DOJ but a bit more easy going and the changes give you more options where DOJ got a bit crazy. Feels like a mere mortal could ICC it.

There's a red version too? ???
Yep
Here is my Day 1 review.
The Easy Mode is pretty nice. I wouldn't call it easy but it's definitely easier than Original or Black Label. As already stated, the bullets are slower, so you have more options for how you dance around them, and you have more time to figure out if you have an imminent death approaching to hit bomb. So the more efficient use of bombs definitely eases the difficulty off a bit sort of how it was in Dodonpachi in the later levels especially if you use Shotia. Getting the 1-ALL still got my nerves completely jacked though. It's a nice mode. People who feel like White and Black are unreachable goals will love this mode.
Sound quality is maybe slightly improved, or maybe it's my mind playing a trick. It sounds like you took the original files and played them through slightly better hardware. The woman's voice in stage 1 sounds a tad prettier, there is more and deeper bass, and the frequency range seems slightly better. Certain highs are more pronounced so certain percussion instruments are slightly more noticeable in areas. But it could be my mind playing a trick. Also there seems to be some odd choices for loop locations of the music in some levels. Check my Easy Mode video, it probably has examples.
There is a marquee included. This board comes up as version 201 China region. The original was 100. So maybe the original kits didn't have a marquee. There is also a move strip, game instructions, and system instructions.
The pcb box has the cart sticker on it which I've scanned:

There are 4 system difficulty levels, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard. It defaults to Easy if you reset system settings so that is what I have it at in the videos. At some point I'll scan the strip and marquee if nobody else has but the marquee still has the protective plastic layer on it and the insane collector in me doesn't want to peel it off. I'll take it apart at some point to get pics of the actual pcbs as well.
It's hard for me to compare the Original Mode in it to anything because it has just been the Black Label board that I've played for..ever. Considering the conversion roms floating around where you can turn a White into Black, I wouldn't say this is a replacement for the original release, and not really for everyone. Although it isn't important, physically the system looks err, better than any arcade hardware ever?
Looks beautiful:

I think Blue is China and Red is Taiwan(?). Here's my boot screen:

Wait, so original mode in the PGM2 version is black label? Does it give you the option of white or black when you start original?
No the Black Label is not in this PGM2 game at all. I mean I've been playing my Black Label board forever so that's the version I'm used to / more able to compare stuff to.
Thanks for the review!
No marquee here. Boo!

Does it still use the ICS2115 for Sound? Or does it have a Yamaha on it? I can't make it out clearly from the pics...if it's Yamaha which model number is it?
According to a friend who checked his it's a YMZ774-S. I don't feel like taking mine apart again quite yet...
Sounds about right. Apparently Mame already has a stub driver for the PGM2.
