I logged into the DFK BL X360 leaderboards for the first time this year and saw DVL made a big improvement on May 25, 2025, getting close to 1.9 trillion!:

I've been playing DFK BL on Switch a lot these past few weeks. Unfortunately, in addition to the faster/higher hit counts on the laser turrets which makes it a lot easier to get a high multiplier early in stages 4 and 5, the slowdown does not get as slow as on the X360 or PCB -- I'd estimate it's at least 20-30% faster on the Switch than on the X360. This is true whether in hyper mode or not, but it becomes more of an issue in hyper mode because it's harder to dodge the "return" lasers and "return" bullets in Strong style. Actually, in hyper mode the slowdown might be as much as 50% faster. It becomes a problem in parts like the laser turret with the 1UP in stage 3 (with C-Strong). I was wondering why lasers and bullets kept hitting me while hypering in spots of stages 2-5 -- it did feel fast to me, but I hadn't played the X360 ver in a couple years. I pulled my X360 out of the closet today, fired it up, and sure enough, I noticed the difference in slowdown speed right away.
Switch ver is playable (and the Zatsuza training mode is nice), but it's harder to perform high-level strats consistently, and scores are definitely not comparable with the X360. I'll reiterate that it's quite a shame that Livewire used the Steam version as their porting base instead of the X360 original. I don't know how much longer my X360 will last, so I really wish someone (City Connection, maybe?) would port that version to the PS5/XSX.
I guess the same issue exists on the Steam port? I haven't played it.

I had to disable likes, at least for the short-term, as I've been getting hundreds of errors a day through the "view likes" feature. Seems it might be a bot attack? Anyway, problem solved, for now.

I finished Earthbound the other day. Took me 20-25 hours (not sure exactly, as the game doesn't track your play time). Really cool last boss fight! Happy to check this one off my bucket list, it was a fun playthrough.
I have a pretty big backlog, and I'm not sure what I'll go for next. At the moment my gaming time is taken up with practicing stages in DFK BL with C-Strong.

There is a great youtube channel run by stm鳥居, ALC, and GFA2-ISO. Recently they have posted some really interesting, historically significant videos:
1) Dodonpachi DFK 1.5 - 842bil B-Strong 2-ALL Ura. Player: chrono. Date: December 2009. This is the highest score submitted to Arcadia (published in March 2010) before the X360 port was released and people had access to training modes to practice the stages and more easily experiment with advanced patterns. Don't miss the amazing no-miss, no-bomb Hibachi fight!

3) Deathsmiles II Ver. 1.00 - 635mil with Supe. Player: GFA2-ISO. Date: September 2009 (appeared in Arcadia magazine). This is the highest score done on Ver 1.00, which was only playable in the arcades for 1 month before Ver 2.00 came and replaced it. It only has 4 stages, and the boss milking is pretty crazy. Scoring system is different from later versions.

No new scores from me yet, but I have started playing SDOJ, DFK BL (C-Strong), and DFK 1.5 (C-Power, C-Strong) on my Switch, using the pro controller. And I might try and improve on my scores in these games. Might go back to Akai Katana on PS4 as well.
So far I have been learning new patterns in DFK BL, and I've gotten a 10.8bil 1CC with A-Shot in SDOJ.

I played through Donkey Kong Bananza on the Switch 2. I went for 100% banandium gems, so it took me over 30 hours to complete. Pretty fun game (not as well-designed as Mario Odyssey), but the bosses were too easy. I give it 8.5/10. There's post-game stuff but I'm not in the mood to play it anymore -- maybe some time in the future.
Since then I've moved on to Earthbound SNES (on the NSO). Way back in the summer of 1995 I went to my local Best Buy and they were clearing out Earthbound for $19.99. I remember they had a big stack of them (20+) on the bottom shelf. I decided to buy it and give it a try. I played up until the desert before Fourside, and gave up on it. I found progression in the game to be too unintuitive and a lot of RNG in the fights made it frustrating. Later that year I sold the game to a local shop for like $5 (mint and complete in that big box).
Now these sell for $3k+ USD. Oh well. I always wanted to go back and finally complete it, so that's what I'm doing now! I'm nearing the end (currently up to Lumine Hall), just got the Sword of Kings (which took awhile!), and I'm really enjoying the game.

Note September 29th is a Monday. The ports back in the '90s released on "Mortal Monday" (in the USA), so that is a nice throwback.
Also, Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PS1 version) has been officially added to the game, with no load times on Shang Tsung's morphs.

Since my last post I finished Metaphor: Refantazio on the Xbox Series X and Lunar Silver Star Story in the new Lunar Remastered Collection, on the PS5. Metaphor was an amazing game that took me about 76 hours to complete. I was playing it during a free month of Gamepass, but I liked it so much I bought the digital version so I could finish it up and maybe do a second replay in the future. I did all of the side quests, maxed out all of the archetypes for the protagonist, etc. The characters, world, story, dungeons, music -- it's all really great. Probably the most impressed I've been with a JRPG this entire console generation. A 10/10 game!
I enjoyed Lunar 1 in the new Remastered game as well. I hadn't played through this game since the PSP remake (which wasn't as good). Way back in '94 I played through the original Sega CD version, which I loved. I never played through the Saturn or PSX remake. In the new Remastered version (based on the PSX remake), I only found Classic mode with CRT filter "3" to look good. The new Remastered widescreen graphics look awful with too much bloom and brightness, and uneven scaling. Even Classic mode has uneven scaling (which is inexplicable), but with filter 3 on it sorta looks like S-video with light scanlines and the uneven scaling is somewhat masked. Anyway, I found this game to be really enjoyable because of the 2x-3x battle speed option and the shared item inventory. Both make the game more fun to play than earlier versions. This one took me just 18 hours to beat. I will play Eternal Blue in this collection in the near future, but for now I'll move on to something else.

I finally picked this up the other day and gave it a whirl. Looks great on the Switch in docked mode and plays really well too. Very responsive controls, feels just like the original game on the X360 in that regard, so it must be around 3-4 frames of input lag. And hey, it even has online leaderboards! Great overall package for $15 USD.
Unfortunately it does not work on the Switch 2. I tried booting it up there and was greeted with an infinite black screen. Then, when I tried to close the game I got an error. Nintendo is aware of this as you cannot even buy the game through the Switch 2 eshop due to this incompatibility. Hopefully they will fix this, but until then, this is yet another reason to hold on to your original Switch.
