Other Games / Nintendo Switch 2 [June 5, 202...
Last post by EOJ - June 04, 2025, 09:18:51 PM
My Switch 2 console (x2) order was delivered today. One for me, one for my son.  :righton:

First impressions are the system feels nice in the hand though it's quite huge (reminds me of the Game Gear I had when I was young). However, so far the Switch OLED screen still looks nicer to me. New pro controllers and joy-cons feel really nice! Better than their Switch predecessors.

Anyone else pick up the system at launch?

I'm going to test out the CAVE ports soon and see if there's any differences from playing them on the Switch.

Other Games / Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollectio...
Last post by EOJ - June 04, 2025, 06:26:59 PM
This was announced today at Sony's State of Play:

https://blog.playstation.com/2025/06/04/mortal-kombat-legacy-collection-launches-on-ps5-ps4-this-year/

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st7exi9Oo8U

It will also be released on Xbox Series, Switch 1 & 2, and Steam.

I'm really excited for this! I love the original MK arcade games and this will include all of them plus nearly every home port! I play these all the time in emulators on my computer, and it will be really nice to be able to play them on consoles with online play. It doesn't look like MK3 on the PS1 or UMK3 on the Saturn will be in here (which I play a lot, as I really like those versions), but I guess that's asking too much. BTW I play & enjoy the SNES version of MKII just as much as the arcade version.

It would be REALLY nice if they included the different arcade ROM versions for each game as well, but I doubt it. MKII has many available ROMs, each one with noticeable differences in moves (sometimes in inputs), finishers, AI, etc. Same deal with MK3.

What's been announced so far:

Mortal Kombat – 1992: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear
Mortal Kombat II -1993: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X
Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES, Genesis
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES
    Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997: Arcade
Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001: Game Boy Advance
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002: Game Boy Advance
Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003: Game Boy Advance

There are more games/versions to be announced as well (hopefully Mortal Kombat Trilogy is among them).

UPDATE:

Full list of games is below.

Mortal Kombat (1992): Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear versions
Mortal Kombat II (1993): Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X versions

I finished Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on the XSX the other day (took me about 16 hours in total), which I really enjoyed. Other than the combat being a bit janky and the lack of a 3rd-person option for combat, it's pretty much as good as this kind of game gets. It's up there with the recent Tomb Raider games, which were equally fun. I give it a 9.5/10.

I had been reading a lot of glowing praise for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, some even calling it the GOTY. Out of curiosity, and my love of turn-based RPG adventures, I bought a month of Game Pass Ultimate for $20 and played through it on my Series X, which took me about 23 hours. In the end, I was quite underwhelmed. It is an OK game, but there are many flaws, such as a cumbersome and poorly designed menu system, the lack of a minimap as you explore (quite frustrating after awhile!), the lack of a quest log, and the inability to swap characters in and out of battle. The music is OK, but some of it is quite bad, especially toward the end of the game. The story is interesting at first, but soon devolves into something pretty ridiculous and trite in the end. It reminded me of Eternal Sonata's story, though not as good. Perhaps the worst problem with the game is the battle system, which I grew to loathe by the end of the game, as it relies too much on timing dodges and parries, instead of turn-based strategy. The game also becomes too easy before the last boss, due to how overpowered some Pictos make your team. The best aspect of the game is the graphics, which are well-stylized with great battle animations. Anyway, for me this game is the most overrated one I've played in awhile and I'd give it no higher than a 6/10. I enjoyed this about as much as FFXV, which is a similarly flawed game. I am glad I played it on Game Pass instead of paying $50 to buy it. I will play through that new Indiana Jones game, next, and finish it before my one-month Game Pass expires.  :righton: $10 to play through each game is a great deal.

Before this I played through Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition on the Series X. Bought it for $4 on a sale recently, and it took me about 9 hours to complete. Pretty fun game with a few frustrating parts. My rating: 7.5/10.

I think analogue output of any sort helps with some of the unintended slowdown but not the latency. I'll add that to my list of things to check though.

CAVE Games / Patching out latency in DoDonP...
Last post by meepowl - May 13, 2025, 06:46:42 PM
Hi,

I've seen a lot of discussion here and elsewhere about the latency in the 360 version of SDOJ and was wondering if anyone is aware of any attempts to patch some of it out? There's a really helpful post on SDOJ reverse engineering here, though it doesn't discuss latency, and I haven't seen anything to suggest such a patch exists.

Thanks.

I completed Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age on the Xbox Series X yesterday. Took me over a month, and around 49 hours on my in-game clock. I think this is a superb game, and one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made. I rate it 9.5/10. Loved the combat system, exploration, characters, artwork, music, etc. Story is pretty derivative (borrows a lot from Star Wars, for example), but still enjoyable. Only downside is the English translation which is often in a very unnatural sort of faux older English. The original Japanese script isn't like that so I don't know why they decided to go that route.

BTW the One X/Series X version is the best console version because it is the only one that runs at 60fps. Makes a big difference IMO.
