It's been about 2 weeks and this still hasn't been fixed nor have Live Wire mentioned anything about fixing it. It is astonishing that they can just force us to download an update for the game years later that totally ruins two of the game modes (DFK BL and DFK BL Arrange).

I don't see anyone complaining about this on Shmups forum or other forums. More people need to speak up and let Live Wire know this is unacceptable.

Quote from: EOJ on October 20, 2025, 04:23:49 PMBad news: after the latest patch, DFK Black label has a pretty bad glitch where lasers don't disappear after you defeat an enemy (or boss phase). This makes the game pretty much unplayable (especially in stages 4 and 5). I hope live wire will fix this! I tested out DFK 1.5 briefly and it doesn't have this glitch, thankfully.

I put up a 391bil replay showing this glitch in action on the leaderboards. I made it up to the start of Stage 5.

And here's a short clip showing the problem: https://x.com/cavexstg/status/1980375856792105027

I just got a refund from Playstation Support for the PS5 version. Input lag was just too bad, even after the patch (that's the reason I gave them, and they accepted it!), so I'll stick with the XBX version. I've read other people have been getting refunds for the game as well, so contact PS support if you find the PS4/5 version unacceptable.

Although the input lag is a big issue, I mainly cancelled my Switch 2 preorder and got a refund for the PS5 digital version to try and send a message to Digital Eclipse that it isn't acceptable to release games in such a state. They spend way too much time on making a "documentary" and not enough time on very basic things like input lag and proper emulation of the games. When I can emulate these games better on my Mac with 3-4 frames of input lag, and the PS5 version has 5.5-7 frames of lag with glitches, it makes no sense to play the PS5 version. With that said, the XSX version is acceptable (only 3 frames of lag!), but more screen options are needed and the bugs need to be fixed.

I was willing to spend $150 for all three versions of the games, but in the end I only spent $45 (10% preorder discount on Xbox). So they lost about $100 from me due to their poor programming of the game.

Patch has rolled out for PS4/PS5:

https://www.digitaleclipse.com/media/mortal-kombat-legacy-kollection-patch-notes-11042025

Will follow on Xbox later in the week, and Switch 1/2 in the coming weeks.

Nigel Woodall tested the PS5 and PS4onPS5 after the patch, and found the input lag was improved by about 18ms, so it's now about 5.5 frames:

Still noticing some glitches after the patch, so more patches are needed. On the plus side they added the combo strings to training mode and the OSD while playing, which is helpful for learning characters. They really need to add some more screen filters (even a simple RGB-type "Arcade filter" would do!) because the only one they do offer (called "TV" and "TV Curved") looks like playing through an RF connector, it's pretty awful! Especially for the arcade games, which never looked like this in the arcades on an RGB monitor.

Physical versions planned for release on December 12 will be the PRE-PATCHED version, so buyer beware. I've cancelled my Switch 2 preorder.

Well, that video above was wrong, there is no difference in input lag between the PS4 and PS5 versions.

Nigel Woodall on Twitter tested all versions and here are the results in ms:

PC3080 22.05
SD OLED 28.30
XSX 51.60
XSS 50.80
NSW2 73.65
NSWonNSW2 81.45
PS5 108.61
PS4onPS5 108.86

Inzone M3. Brook UFB/Gen5x controller.

So, Xbox versions are 3 frames, as I guessed earlier, and PS4/PS5 are 6.5 frames and Switch 2 is about 4.5 frames. Hopefully they can bring down the PS input lag in a patch, though this same problem existed with the Cowabunga Collection, so I wouldn't hope for too much. In any case, Digital Eclipse have stated it "will be reduced" in a patch coming out this week: https://x.com/frostman007/status/1985127088341635086

Steam has already received a patch that fixed the missing sound effects/voices in MKII 32X, as well as other bug fixes and improvements. It will be released on consoles this week:

This video claims the PS5 version has 7 frames of lag on the 2D games, and 4 frames of lag in the PS4 version:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZeumwwDNHg

So if you buy it digitally on your PS5, play the PS4 version. Xbox version is probably around 3 frames. Steam is even less, 1-2.

Not sure about the Switch 1 or 2 versions yet. Switch 1 doesn't have online play for MK4 and has a lot of frame drops in that game as well, so it seems to be the worst version in terms of framerate performance, which is no surprise.

It's out digitally on October 30th, and you can play it right now on Xbox if you set your console region to New Zealand. I bought it on my Series X and played through the various ports for about a half hour. Overall the package is excellent and the port quality seems good. The arcade versions feel responsive, though I don't like that you are given a single "TV" filter (with a "TV curved" option) -- I'd prefer just a nice scanline filter instead of the bloom and distortion they added in their filter. Hopefully they will add that option later. There do seem to be some bugs/glitches that need to be fixed: I tried out Mortal Kombat 4 with the new 4x rendering option (which looks great!), but then the game hard crashed in the middle of my second round.  :oogle:

It's really cool that you can set the "EJB Menu" to activate in the arcade games by just pressing the block button on the attract or title screen. :righton:

There is a 3-hour documentary in here that I'm sure will be interesting!

I have the Switch 2 physical version preordered, and I've preordered the digital PS5 version as well. Hopefully the input lag isn't bad on that one. For the Cowabunga Collection, the PS4/PS5 versions had the worst input lag, with Switch coming in second, and Series X/S being the best.

I haven't seen this posted elsewhere, but Live Wire improved the slowdown accuracy in this port (not in this patch specifically, I'm just talking about the original Switch port). It's very close to the PCB now, and you don't have to mess around with screen settings/resolution to get better slowdown like you do on the X360. Actually, even with optimal settings on the 360, the slowdown is still more accurate on the Switch version. It's even more accurate than the eXa version, which has too much slowdown in a few critical spots in Stage 5, making that version the easiest of the bunch.

Well, the DFK BL leaderboards only let you upload your top score (among all ship types), while the DFK 1.5 leaderboards upload your latest score with any ship type, overriding your overall high score! For example, I had a 321bil 2-ALL score with C-Strong on the 1.5 leaderboards. I played a quick run of C-Power today, scored a measly 55bil, and it replaced/erased my 321bil score on the leaderboards! Bleh.

In DFK BL, at least, it seems you can only upload your top score among all ship types, which sort of sucks. Case in point: I have a score on the leaderboards with C-Strong, but whenever I play with C-Bomb, it won't upload my score at all. On the X360 you could upload your top score for every ship type.
