Saw this come across the Cave World twitter feed. Great little interview that covers a wide range of topics including: working for Toaplan, developing Esprade, frustration with the evolution of the industry and returning to Cave to create Deathsmiles.

Huge Jun fan here.

I really liked his reasoning for doing DS. He hated to see Cave "struggle" with their characters, programs, and music meshing. ha ha
I wonder if that was a joke that was lost in print.

I'm thinking it may be because at first glance it doesn't add up with what Cave had been producing. Mushi Futari for example has a near prefect blend of character, music and game design.

If you can forgive him for Deathsmiles IIX. That was embarrassing.

...or Windia's melon head on the front of the Deathsmiles art book. I reckon he facepalms hard when he looks back on that one.

I completely agree.. especially given how stellar the art direction for the original DeathSmiles was.

I forgive him, though =P

Yeah, I'll admit the original DS art was pretty tight. Apart from that book cover of course... I mean, just look at it. Even I would have caught that shit before inks were laid down.  :P

I think the DSII art is fine, but the chunky polygons suck a bit.  Game's fun though.

That's hard to believe. Wow. Depressing.
