This was announced today at Sony's State of Play:

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st7exi9Oo8U

It will also be released on Xbox Series, Switch 1 & 2, and Steam.

I'm really excited for this! I love the original MK arcade games and this will include all of them plus nearly every home port! I play these all the time in emulators on my computer, and it will be really nice to be able to play them on consoles with online play. It doesn't look like MK3 on the PS1 or UMK3 on the Saturn will be in here (which I play a lot, as I really like those versions), but I guess that's asking too much. BTW I play & enjoy the SNES version of MKII just as much as the arcade version.

It would be REALLY nice if they included the different arcade ROM versions for each game as well, but I doubt it. MKII has many available ROMs, each one with noticeable differences in moves (sometimes in inputs), finishers, AI, etc. Same deal with MK3.

What's been announced so far:

Mortal Kombat – 1992: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear
Mortal Kombat II -1993: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X
Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES, Genesis
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES
    Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997: Arcade
Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001: Game Boy Advance
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002: Game Boy Advance
Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003: Game Boy Advance

There are more games/versions to be announced as well (hopefully Mortal Kombat Trilogy is among them).

Looks like September 29th is the release date for the digital version:

Physical version might not ship until December 12th, as the preorders currently list that date.

Note September 29th is a Monday. The ports back in the '90s released on "Mortal Monday" (in the USA), so that is a nice throwback.

Also, Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PS1 version) has been officially added to the game, with no load times on Shang Tsung's morphs.

Here's an EVO panel discussing the collection:

It's out digitally on October 30th, and you can play it right now on Xbox if you set your console region to New Zealand. I bought it on my Series X and played through the various ports for about a half hour. Overall the package is excellent and the port quality seems good. The arcade versions feel responsive, though I don't like that you are given a single "TV" filter (with a "TV curved" option) -- I'd prefer just a nice scanline filter instead of the bloom and distortion they added in their filter. Hopefully they will add that option later. There do seem to be some bugs/glitches that need to be fixed: I tried out Mortal Kombat 4 with the new 4x rendering option (which looks great!), but then the game hard crashed in the middle of my second round.  :oogle:

It's really cool that you can set the "EJB Menu" to activate in the arcade games by just pressing the block button on the attract or title screen. :righton:

There is a 3-hour documentary in here that I'm sure will be interesting!

I have the Switch 2 physical version preordered, and I've preordered the digital PS5 version as well. Hopefully the input lag isn't bad on that one. For the Cowabunga Collection, the PS4/PS5 versions had the worst input lag, with Switch coming in second, and Series X/S being the best.

I gave the PS5 version a whirl and it seems about the same. I didn't notice a difference in input lag, though maybe it has an extra frame or two. Biggest problem I've noticed thus far is the 32X version of MKII doesn't have the voice samples, it seems to just be using the audio from the genesis version (same problem is found in the XSX and PS5 versions). Hopefully they will fix that soon.

I strongly prefer the PS5 controller for fighting games so I'll probably play it mostly on there.
